As a child, Nicky Steel always wondered where coins had travelled before they came to be in her piggy bank. Then, as she grew older and became aware of all the different types of money in the world, it became even more intriguing. 

These thoughts came and went throughout her life. She studies to become a teacher after finishing school while working as a session singer, recording radio and television jingles. Performing won out and she travelled the world singing.

Finally, as a complete contrast, Nicky became a police officer. A 30-year career in law enforcement followed, interspersed with singing jazz.

On retiring from the police service, it seemed like the right time to revisit the question about a coin's possible journey. The Australian dollar coin celebrated its 4oth anniversary in 2024...
